Who we are

Tandem is software for trucking companies and their drivers. It is run by Andrei Constantin Barna ("Tandem", "we", "us"). Tandem serves carriers and drivers in the United States. It is also available to users in Romania and Moldova.

For anything about privacy, write to hello@tandemfleet.com. A postal address is available on request through that email.

Who is in charge of your data

Tandem is used by trucking companies. A company signs up, adds its people, and invites its drivers. We call that company "your company" on this page.

  • Driver app and office software: your company decides what is recorded about its loads and its people. We run the software for your company and use the data only for that. In legal terms, your company is the "controller" or "business", and Tandem is its "processor" or "service provider".
  • This website and emails you send us: Tandem is in charge of that data.

The Tandem Driver app

The driver app shows you your loads, lets you update each stop, send your load documents, do a pre-trip inspection, and message your dispatcher. You cannot sign up on your own. Your company invites you with a link or a code. There is no password and no sign-in with another service.

Here is what the app collects, and why.

  • Your name and the truck details your company enters about you. Used to sign you in and show you your own loads.
  • A sign-in key made on your phone. It ties your access to one phone. We keep only a one-way fingerprint of it, never the key itself.
  • Location, only while you have a load. Details in the next section.
  • Photos and scans of load documents you choose to send: bill of lading (BOL), proof of delivery (POD), seal, cargo, lumper receipt, scale ticket and similar. You can take them with the camera, use your phone's document scanner, or pick one photo or file. The app only gets the photo or file you pick. It never reads the rest of your photo library or your files. If location is already allowed, the document carries the place where your phone was when you sent it.
  • Pre-trip inspection photos and an optional short video. These are taken live with the camera in the app. The video is recorded without sound. Each photo carries its time, place and truck number. Notes you write about a problem go with them.
  • Messages between you and your company's dispatch.
  • Stop updates you tap (At pickup, Loaded, Departed, Delivered and so on) and the time of each.
  • A push address for your phone (on iPhone, a code from Apple). Used only to tell you when a load is sent or changed, or when dispatch writes to you. No marketing notices.
  • App version and phone type, sent with each request so the service works with your app and we can fix problems.

The app does not collect your contacts, your other photos or files, your microphone (nothing records sound), your health data, your browsing, or an advertising ID. The app does not show or collect pay, payments or bank details. The phone's document scanner works on the phone itself.

Location

Tandem tracks the load, not the person. The app uses location to mark your arrival at each stop of your load, so you do not have to tap, and so dispatch knows where the load is. It collects only what that needs: your position, the time, your speed and direction, and the accuracy of the fix, and only while you are responsible for a load. It does not look at where you go for yourself, what you do off the job, or how you spend your time off.

  • Only while you have a load. The app reads location only while your company has a load assigned and sent to you (on the way to pickup, loaded, or in transit). If the next load is already sent to you, it carries on without asking you again.
  • Nothing between loads. When your last load is delivered and no next load is sent to you, the app stops, except for up to two minutes after a delivery while your company's next load is being released to you. With no load, it reads no location, shows no notice and asks for nothing.
  • Also when the app is closed, if you allow it ("Always" on iPhone, "Allow all the time" on Android). That is how an arrival gets marked while your phone is in your pocket. On Android, a notice shows while it is running, with a Pause button; that is an Android rule. On iPhone, the system shows its own location indicator.
  • How an arrival is marked: when your phone or truck stays within about 300 meters (1,000 feet) of the stop, or inside the yard, for at least two slow readings over two minutes. The stop then shows "Arrived" with the time of the first reading. You can still tap yourself, and you can move an automatic time earlier before you leave the stop.
  • What a reading holds: place, time, speed, direction and accuracy. Nothing else is kept: the iPhone's location software may attach battery level and altitude, and our server discards them on arrival and never stores them. Speed and direction help tell a truck that has arrived from one driving past the stop.
  • Motion data (on iPhone) is used on the phone only, to pause location while the truck is parked. It is not sent to us.
  • Who sees it: your company's dispatch. If your company has agreed to track a load for a broker, shipper or receiver that requires electronic tracking (as many rate confirmations do), that party sees the position of that load only, only while the load is on the road, and only through a tracking connection your company turns on. They see the load, not your history before or after it. We do not sell location data and we do not share it for advertising.
  • What it is not used for: no ads, no selling, and Tandem does not rate or score drivers from location.
  • It is optional. You can say no, or turn location off later in your phone's settings. The app keeps working; you tap your stops yourself.
  • You can pause it. During a load, Pause in the app (Profile › Settings) or in the Android notice stops location at once; Resume starts it again. The app's main screen shows a small line saying whether location is on, paused or off. Your company's dispatch sees that you paused it. A pause ends with the load.

The office software

Your company's office stores its business in Tandem: loads, rate confirmations, customers, drivers, trucks, documents and messages. That data belongs to your company. We use it only to run Tandem for your company. Our team does not browse it. We open it only if your company asks us for help, if it is needed to keep the service safe, or if the law requires it.

If your company connects its truck telematics provider (for example Samsara), Tandem reads the trucks' positions from that provider to show them on the map and mark arrivals. That happens only if your company turns it on.

To place stops on the map, Tandem looks up the business addresses of pickups and deliveries with the free U.S. Census Bureau geocoder and with OpenStreetMap. Only the stop's address is sent, never a person's data.

To fix problems and help you, we keep records of how the platform behaves: errors, which screens are used, app version, browser or device type, and timings. These are our own records. No third-party analytics service gets them.

This website

This website sets no tracking cookies and loads no analytics or advertising trackers. The early-access form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots, which loads a script from Cloudflare. If you fill in the form, we receive your name, email, phone and fleet details by email, and use them only to reply to you. If you write to us, we use your message and anything you attach only to help you.

What we never do

  • We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.
  • We show no ads, in the app or on the website.
  • The app has no advertising, analytics or tracking code from other companies. It does not follow you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not use your data to build profiles about you.

Who else sees data

  • Your company. It sees what you send for its loads.
  • The broker, shipper or receiver of a tracked load, only if your company has agreed to track that load for them and has turned the tracking connection on. They see that load's position while it is on the road, and nothing before or after it.
  • Service providers we use, which handle data only to provide their service to us:
    • Cloudflare, for the network connection, the web address, this website, and receiving our email.
    • Apple Push Notification service, to deliver notices to iPhones.
    • Resend, to deliver the emails our website form sends to us.
    • Telegram, only if your company uses Tandem's Telegram connection: some notices (for example a new message from you to dispatch, or a problem found in an inspection) also go to your company's office chat there, and a driver who chooses Telegram gets load notices there.
    • Your company's telematics provider (for example Samsara), only if your company connected it.
  • Hosting. We run Tandem's servers ourselves. They are located in Romania, in the European Union. If you are in the United States, your data is handled outside the United States.
  • The law. We give data to authorities only when the law requires it, such as a valid court order. We tell your company unless the law forbids it.
  • A new owner. If Tandem is sold, this policy still applies to the data we hold.

How long we keep data

  • Raw location readings: 7 days, then deleted. The arrival and departure times, and the few readings that show how an arrival was marked, stay with the load's record.
  • Pre-trip inspection photos and videos: deleted after 30 days at most. Your company can choose a shorter time, never a longer one. Your company can download an inspection before then.
  • Load documents, stop updates and messages: they stay with the load for as long as your company keeps its load records. Trucking companies often must keep these records by law.
  • Your driver profile and sign-in: while you work with your company. When your company ends your access, your phone is signed out at once, and we delete your sign-in details within 90 days. Your name stays on the past loads you drove.
  • Server logs (time, network address, app version, errors): up to 90 days.
  • Website form and emails: as long as we are talking with you, and up to 2 years after, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Backups: encrypted, and kept for up to 12 months before they are replaced. Deleted data leaves the backups by then.

Security

All connections use encryption (HTTPS). Each company's data is walled off from every other company's inside the database itself. On your phone, your sign-in is kept in the phone's secure storage, and short-lived access codes are tied to that phone. Photos and files are stored on our servers, open only to your company. No system is perfectly safe. If you think something is wrong, write to hello@tandemfleet.com.

Your choices and rights

  • Location, camera, notifications: you can say no, or change your mind any time in your phone's settings. The app keeps working with taps.
  • See, correct, copy or delete your data: in the app, Profile › Delete my data opens the instructions on our website. Or write to hello@tandemfleet.com from any email. Tell us your name and your company. Because your company is in charge of driver data, we check with your company and help it answer, or we answer ourselves where we are in charge. We reply within 30 days (45 days where California law allows). Some records may stay where the law requires your company to keep them, such as delivered-load documents. We tell you which ones. How to ask is also on our support page.
  • Stop using the app: sign out or delete the app at any time. That stops all collection from your phone. Tell your company if you stop working with it, so it can end your access.
  • United States: state privacy laws (for example in California, Virginia, Colorado and Texas) give rights to know, access, correct, delete and get a copy of personal data, and to opt out of sale, targeted advertising and profiling. We do none of those three, so there is nothing to opt out of. Precise location is treated as sensitive data, and we use it only for the purpose above. You may use an authorized agent. We may need to confirm who you are, with your company's help.
  • Romania (EU) and Moldova: you also have the right to restrict or object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority (in Romania, ANSPDCP; in Moldova, the National Center for Personal Data Protection). Where an app permission rests on your consent, you can withdraw it any time in your phone's settings.
  • No penalty: we never treat you worse for using these rights.

Children

Tandem is for working adults. It is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we update the date at the top and tell the companies that use Tandem by email before the change takes effect. If a change means the app collects something new, the app asks you first.
